Welcome to the Ferguson-Florissant (MO) Branch of the American Association of University Women

Mission Statement

AAUW has been empowering women since 1881; seeking to advance equality for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Graduates holding associate (or equivalent, such as RN), baccalaureate or higher degrees from a qualified college or university are invited to join. Graduates of every race, creed, age, gender sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class are welcome.  We speak to women’s needs, aspirations, and concerns across the life span.

About Us

Established in 1963, Ferguson Florissant is the first suburban branch organized in the St. Louis metro area.  Our branch helped to form the Community College District and St. Louis County Special School District and helped to launch new suburban branches.  In the late 60s and early 70s, we participated in the Coalition for the Environment and our members actively campaigned against air pollution to assure clean air for our communities.  Our branch sponsored large public book sales from 1965 until 1993 to benefit AAUW Funds and community projects for women and girls.  Members participated in Show Me the Arts in Missouri, wrote articles for Pause in Missouri (1979), Show Me Missouri Women (1989, 1993), and represented famous women at local schools for Women’s History Month.  We currently enjoy a monthly book discussion and sponsor relevant programs in line with AAUW issues, open to the community.  We participate in voter registration, network with other women’s organizations, and mentor a girls’ robotics team as our STEM project.  We are about education, public policy, legal advocacy, and equality for women and girls, while having fun doing it.
